About the Art:
The featured sculpture was originally displayed in 2009 at the Diane Hughes Gallery, Charlotte, N.C. The piece is constructed of steel and made using a specialized bent metal process. The painting of the metal transforms the work into a silhouette. The work is meant to defy scale and dimension and encourages observer exploration, providing a personalized perspective when viewing the work through various vantage points.

Artist Summary

Bartlett received his BFA from the University of Iowa and moved to New York City where he worked as apprentice under world renowned post-minimalist artist Keith Sonnier. He was soon working in his own studio developing his vision through sculpture. Wayne has traveled extensively throughout Asia studying Indonesian textiles and East Asian sculptural forms that continue to reflect in his work today.

Wayne has exhibited in New York, across the U.S. and England. In Birmingham, Wayne
helped to devise a seminal urban project transforming derelict buildings into dynamic artistic communities, combining art, urban regeneration and community building. Bartlett continues to pursue his vision and work in New York City.
