About the Art:

Intrigued by the use of circus posters of the 1950's as advertisement on sign posts and store windows, I related this to advertisement you commonly see today in Times Square, New York. In this series, I used the red letters from vintage circus posters to create a modern cityscape. The various sized letters and font help to create a sense of distance and field of depth. The larger letters define ground or subject of focus. The posters and the letter size used on them had to be for impact and direct visibility. A specific size of letter was used to minimize space and not take up too much of the store window. In contrast, the advertisement of Times Square takes over with bright lights and monumental TV screens, brand names and logos running up the sides of buildings, every square inch accounted for. With these elements at hand, I was able to recreate the familiar streets of New York City.
